Josephine's Rat Play Tunnels
I THINK THIS LADY IS BRILLIANT! Josephine, the type of rat owner you would want to live with if you were a rat, came up with this idea and crafted this fun Playground for her ratties. One thing I really like about it is that she upcycled many types of safe for her ratties items that never hit the trash pile.
When I saw the photos of this clever ladies rat playground I ask if I could feature it on our Rat Craft page. When Josephine sent all the photos, I thought it needed it's own page. I am sure there are others of us out there that will love to put together this safe and fun playground for our own ratties.
Josephine also gardens and builds very detailed model airplanes.
Please note all the venting that Josephine has in this playground for her ratties. While some of it is setting by a window with the sun, first of all she would never leave her ratties there if it were an issue for their safety and or health, but with the cage going all around the room and all the venting in the cage, even the sunlight is not a problem.
You can see that Josephine used empty, then washed, bottles of juices as well as a bit of 1/2" x 1/2" wire and PVC Piping to make this playground.
Here is a quote that she sent with the photos: "Mocha and Sweet Girl have the tunnels- now go part way around my bedroom 28 Gatorade bottles - 5 gallon water bottles, wire cloth to make and about, 4mos work and they like playing in them, I don't feel so bad now when I work in yard and leave them on there own."
With 5 Gallon Water jugs this playground gives the ratties an area to play sleep and for one rattie to get in front of another when running through in a playful manner. I just love that Josephine thought this playground out for the fun and safety of the ratties.
Quote from Joesphine: "I give them new runs towers sleeping rooms all the time to keep them happy . It is all recycled plastic, that I use a rat can chew through if wanted to. My girls are happy. Out in room 4 time a week or more to run free and play with other tunnels and stuff I have out for them, and help me take pencil, ruler, paper, balsa wood just pick on me and I love my girls, would do anything for them, have short life to live."
JOSEPHINE SENT MORE PHOTOS AND HER OWN WORDS ON HOW YOU TOO CAN BUILD YOUR RATTIES THIS WONDERFUL PLAYGROUND - THANKS SO MUCH JOSEPHINE!
I AM GOING TO PUT IT UP HERE AS I RECEIVED IT FROM JOSEPHINE - AGAIN, I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS IDEA
"I have come up with more parts to the tunnels now. I have made almost 90 turn, took a few tries but got it, if you make wrong cut be sure to keep the part you will find a use for it. Use anything you can find around you house, or you can got to lumber or hardware to things. I looked on line have found a company that sales clear tubes that could be used for the tunnels, A box of 3 feet long was around $90.00. I make out of things, I all ready have pad for." Josephine the creator of this playground.
Josephine continues "This is using a PVC T piece as its base. With a wire rap around and sheet metal screws. On the bottom of the cake pan have 8 wire inserts around it. The Girls {her rattie girls} love this one to go up in and look out."
Also use {wire tubes she made} for tunnels, in place of a bottle. I did not use the left side, I made a new box, to hook the new tunnels on to I can’t get all the way around a book case is in the way.
GREAT CLOSE UP PHOTOS SENT FROM JOSEPHINE SO YOU COULD SEE EVERY PROCESS TO BUILD THIS RATTIE PLAYGROUND
YOU CAN SEE FROM THE PHOTOS HOW SHE MARKED, CUT AND ADDED EACH OF THE PIECES TO THE PLAYGROUND. SHE EVEN VENTED THE PVC PIPING.
